Our Nation's Capitol
I'm finally blogging about our trip to Washington, D.C. We had a fantastic time visiting all the monuments and museums! I hadn't been to D.C. since I was a senior in high school, and the rest of the family were first-timers. My husband was there for a work conference, and he enjoyed running into some of his colleagues from Ohio who happened to be there for the same session.
I wondered how the Hurricane would do with this type of tourism, but he actually loved it. He was super pumped about riding on the subway, and he wanted to see everything in the museums. It did create confusion when some areas were hands-on learning and some were not. He only set off one alarm, though. It was at Mt. Vernon. Luckily he's a fast runner so museum security didn't nab him. When I caught up to him and reminded him that he wasn't supposed to touch that 200-year old chair, he replied, "Well, then they should've put glass around it."

At the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Center, we met a group of Buddhist monks visiting from Thailand. Hurry showed them how he could race his toy trucks on the ground around the space shuttle. They must have been impressed because they all wanted to take pictures with him. I love how Hurry and his new friend are striking the same pose in this photo:
The major highlight of our trip was being able to spend time with some old friends!!
Pictured below is one of my favorite people from college: the incomparable Jill Wright, Esq. She looks exactly the same as she did back then, and her awesomeness has only increased. She's the coolest kid ever! We had so much fun hanging out with her, and Hurry now refers to her as his friend Jill.
Also, our best friends/neighbors from Ohio now live in D.C. I can't even express how wonderful it was to see them again! My husband and Jeremy became friends right away in their first Anatomy lab at OSU, and then Karen invited me to come across town to a monthly book group, so we soon became great friends. Two years later our family needed to be closer to the med school, and we moved in just a few houses down from them. We had the best times. I can only dream of having neighbors like that again. They invited my husband to stay with them while he was at this conference in February, and they were amazing hosts. Jer and Kare, we LOVED being in your home spending time with you and your wonderful kids. THANK YOU for everything!!!!!
