Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. ~ Mary Jean Irion

Snapshot

At 10 1/2 months old, our Little Scout loves to laugh and chatter away, play peek-a-boo, clap her hands, and mimic sounds and actions. She's up to twelve words/phrases now: Duck, Hi, Dada, Tap Tap, Mama, All Done, Diaper, Uh-oh, Dance, Book, Ball and Where Go?

Not creeping,
crawling or cruising yet, though. To get from point A to point B she prefers to roll, check her coordinates, and then roll again. Or sit-and-scoot. Or backstroke across the carpet by pushing with her hands and feet.

She's very affectionate and loves to hug. Her crazy, fluffy hair is always trying to stick out in every direction.

Her favorite toys are: her picnic basket and grocery bag with pretend food, her ball tumbler, her baby books, and lots of plush toys like this dalmatian:

Such a sweet, happy baby.

Tiny Teeth

Check out those little choppers!  Now she's working on the top two.
Yesterday, Hurry reported, "Our baby knows how to bite now!!"
Judging by the marks on his fingers, he found that out the hard way.

Brother of the Year

Look Mom!  I brought Baby some toys!!

Baby No-neck

A little while ago, Hurry remarked,
"Mom, how come our baby doesn't have a neck?"
"She has a neck," I laughed.
He tilted his head and looked at her closely.
"No.  She has no neck.  I can't see a neck."
So I stretched her out on the floor, lifting her chubby chin.
"See? It's in there, all right.  It's just hiding."
"Huh," he concluded.  "Not like my neck, and not like your neck.  Just a really, really short neck."

A Quick Shout Out, for Scout.

For some reason, baby Scout always breaks into a smile when I yell.  (Usually I’m just calling up/down the stairs to my husband or son, but sometimes I may raise my voice for EMPHASIS!!!!!!) No matter the reason: anytime I up the decibels, Little Scout flashes me a delighted grin.  Perhaps the sound of Mommy shouting is soothing to her because she heard it so often in the womb.

Infant Pattern Baldness

In keeping with posts on the topic of hair.....

As mentioned on the "ABOUT" page, Little Scout is a watchful one. In fact, she’s rubbed off all her hair across the back in a straight line, from scanning back-and-forth, back-and-forth. My husband has dubbed her The Overseer since she sits in one of her various baby receptacles (swing, bouncer, bumbo seat, car seat, somebody's arms) and keeps a close eye on all our movements.

A lot of the rest of her hair is falling out anyway, so now she only has a few patches left, which has prompted the purchase of several of these, since none of her little hairclips will stay on anymore:

and these:

...and which reminds me of this SNL infomercial:

("Give your child the gift of self esteem.")

Unfortunately, infantile baldness isn’t just for male babies. Maybe Little Scout can ask for some hair for Christmas. If not real hair, then at least “fake hair with real results.”
