Spinach for Breakfast

Several weeks ago at book club, the group began discussing strategies for weight loss and healthy living.  Two girls mentioned that they were currently "off sugar." Completely.  They were not eating any food with added sugar. Not even ketchup. As a person with sugar intake levels that put me on pace to develop Type II Diabetes by the end of the year, I find this type of voluntary restriction astounding.
One girl also mentioned that she eats spinach at every meal, including breakfast.  Wow. The only time I eat spinach at breakfast-time it is a minor ingredient in a meal where the colossal cholesterol count will far outweigh any benefits gained from the greens.  A meal you might find at places beginning with “i” and ending with “hop.”

I am more likely to eat bacon at every meal than spinach.  ...Which is why the Wake N' Bacon alarm clock is at the top of my Christmas list this year.  This has been around for a while, so some of you may already have it, but I only recently discovered that it might be possible to wake up to the smell of bacon without the risk of burning my foot on a George Foreman grill.
